Mohawk has unveiled the SmartStrand Contract, a bio-based fiber system. First introduced as a broadloom offering by Mohawk Industries for residential use in 2005, this fiber made with DuPontSorona polymer has been specially engineered for the needs of commercial spaces. Available for both broadloom and modular, DuPont Sorona contains 37 percent renewably sourced ingredients, and is the branded name for the triexta fiber used in SmartStrand Contract. SmartStrand Contract utilizes triexta fiber, first to be recognized by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as a separate fiber class in more than 50 years. It complies with LEED Credit MR 6.0 for rapidly renewable materials.
