Quincy - Singapore

by Tony Smyth, 27 January 2011

This quirky boutique hotel is located at Mount Elizabeth, just a stone’s throw from the Orchard Road shopping belt but tucked away in a quiet, residential enclave. Targeted at the business traveler, the Quincy Hotel’s trendy façade of dark grey metal, anodised steel and shimmering windows form large, seemingly random modular shapes that appeal to all who appreciate good design.

Quincy was first intended to be an extension of the existing Elizabeth Hotel. However, the architects wanted to create a building in a contemporary style, clearly distinguishing itself as an exciting addition to the Orchard skyscape.

The plot after the necessary setbacks was a very narrow strip which was a challenge to the designers. A rectangular block was the most efficient design but to move away from a mundane form, a play on three-dimensional effects make the building stand out.

Yet, tucked away as it is from the main road, Quincy still offers its guests privacy and exclusivity. With just 108 rooms, this new hotel is the smallest in the stable of Far East Hospitality group’s hotels, but it is big in redefining ‘a stay in Singapore’.

Quincy offers a distinctive all-inclusive stay: the room rate includes a limousine transfer service from the airport – with free Wi-Fi access during the ride, all three meals at the hotel, high-speed Internet connections, all mini-bar amenities, and cocktails and drinks each evening.

“We wanted a combination of the best international influences, lots of character – and to the mix, we have also added our own years of experience as one of Singapore’s leading hospitality groups with six existing hotels and 11 serviced residences,” says Chia Boon Kuah, executive director in charge of Far East Hospitality’s business.
