Marina Bay Sands
Sky style
The Marina Bay Sands is undoubtedly a landmark building. Its curved, 55-storey towers seem to grow out of Singapore itself, while uplifting a remarkable park 200 metres into the sky. A truly global endeavour, with interior design firm HBA working in close collaboration with internationally renowned architect Moshe Safdie to deliver a stunning leisure and convention venue. The integrated teams realised a cohesive contemporary vision that is a microcosm of Singapore and a monument to the power of design.
An integrated resort property, the Marina Bay Sands offers 3,000 guest rooms and suites and 111,485 square metres of convention and exhibition space, in addition to the island nation’s second casino. The exterior architecture’s three main towers bear the iconic, curved façade that is Safdie’s signature style. They stretch gracefully 55 stories, holding aloft a park and recreational plaza at their summit.
HBA was asked to deliver an interior architecture for all of the guestrooms, suites, presidential suites, atrium corridors, closed corridors and all of the MICE spaces. To accomplish this they had to step out of their operational norms, establishing an intimate working relationship with Safdie and his team to fulfil the entire vision of a truly integrated resort. The resulting interior design is a true collaboration.
“The architects had a very strong vision, and the interiors were designed to compliment it at every stage,” said Ilija Karlusic, Principal of HBA Hong Kong and lead project designer.
